Caleb Chowbay, a former two-sport standout at Mt. Juliet who spent the 2018-19 basketball season as an assistant under Doug Keil at Independence, has been named to the men’s coaching staff at Martin Methodist College.

Chowbay, a 2017 Martin Methodist graduate, played his final two seasons with the RedHawks after initially signing with Belmont University, where he spent three years.

“I could not be more thrilled to return to a place where I have such special memories,” Chowbay said. “Martin Methodist and the city of Pulaski are places I truly love. I always wanted to be able to give back and this opportunity seems like the perfect fit.

“I want to thank Dr. Mark La Branche, Mr. Jeff Bain and coach Dugan Lyne for giving me this opportunity. I am so excited and cannot wait to get things started.”

Chowbay served as an assistant last season at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C.

In his two years as a player at Martin Methodist, Chowbay averaged 15.3 points, helping the RedHawks to an NAIA national tournament appearance and earning all-American honors his senior year, when he averaged 16.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists.

Prior to transferring, Chowbay played in 36 games during the 2014-15 season at Belmont.

“We are excited to have Caleb join the coaching side of our program,” Lyne said. “Caleb returns to a program that he has been an enormous part of since he stepped on campus back in the fall of 2015.

“Caleb has a great feel for the game, will excel in player development, and will continue to help build our culture.”
