Summertown Week 3 opponent forced to cancel due to COVID-19

Summertown is without an opponent for Friday night, as the Eagles’ scheduled game against host Collinwood has been cancelled.

The Trojans were forced to cancel this week’s game as well as their Sept. 11 matchup at Loretto due to a positive COVID-19 test, coach Scotty Hannah confirmed.

Per TSSAA guidelines adapted for the pandemic, the games are ruled no-contests.

Both games are non-region contests for Collinwood, and Hannah said there were no plans to reschedule.

Taking the extra couple practice days, Summertown coach Les Mote said his team will just use this time to prepare for next week against Richland — which defeated Collinwood 26-10 last week — and give them Labor Day off.

“If it had been earlier in the week, I may have tried to find someone to play, but giving our kids an extra day off and a few extra days to prepare for next week was a positive,” he said.

Previously, Columbia Academy had to pick up a Week 1 opponent after Marshall County had to cancel for pandemic-related concerns. Instead, the Bulldogs traveled to Clay County and lost 27-14.

Columbia Central’s volleyball, cross country and girls soccer programs were all shut down for a period this season. Dickson County, Columbia Central’s football opponent last week, has cancelled its Region 6-6A game Friday against Brentwood.
