FCA golf tourney set for Friday at Stoneybrook

Participants and sponsors are still being sought for the 2020 Marion Wilhoite Fellowship of Christian Athletes Golf Classic, which is scheduled to take place Friday at Columbia’s Stoneybrook Golf Course.

Presented by McDonald’s of Maury County, the event was originally scheduled for early May but had to be postponed as a result of the ongoing global pandemic, according to Duck River FCA area director Kirk Shepard.

“It’s usually the first Friday in May, but everything was still shut down,” Shepard said. “We had set it up about three months before that, but with everything still being shut down, we decided we’d have to postpone it.

“In June, we finally said, let’s shoot for this date. We talked to Rick Saxby at Stoneybrook and figured this date would work, and we were hoping everything would be nice and settled and we’d be able to do it.”

The Duck River area consists of schools in Maury and Marshall counties. Shepard was appointed as director four years ago after a split of the area with the previous director, Ben Gooch, continuing to work with schools in Giles, Lawrence, Lewis and Wayne counties.

“This is my fourth year to do it myself,” Shepard said of the tournament. “Ben had done it for several years before that.”

Registration for Friday’s tournament is limited to the first 24 registered teams. Spots are available for Gold and Sliver sponsorships as well as single player and hole and tee sponsorships. Registration is set to begin at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and a 12 noon lunch and program. There will be contests for putting, closest to pin and straightest drive.
