Summit runs away with win at Northwest

From the opening kickoff, the Summit Spartans were off and running, as they put their Week 4 loss to Franklin and their Week 6 opponent behind them. Summit raced out to a five-touchdown lead in the first quarter, and cruised to a 42-0 road win over Clarksville Northwest on Friday.

Five different Spartans scored in the first quarter on three different types of scoring plays.

Destin Wade reeled off a 52-yard scamper on the opening drive, while Brady Pierce and Tre Hunter added rushing touchdowns of their own soon thereafter.

Following Hunter’s 8-yard touchdown run, the Spartans got a special play from its special teams when Zac Switzer took a Raul Mulgado punt 32 yards to pay dirt. On the ensuing drive, Konata Werts picked off Ethan Tackett and went 19 yards for a score.

Jakalean Cotton got in on the action in the second quarter with an 8-yard run of his own, finishing off the Vikings for the visitors.

Summit ran just 27 plays in the game, but tallied 272 total yards, 251 on the ground in vintage Brian Coleman fashion.

Summit returns to action next week on the road at Page, beginning a four-week stretch of Region 5-5A opponents.
