Huntland rolled into The Mount on Friday and ran away with a Region 5-1A win over Mt. Pleasant, 41-17.

Huntland was led by a potent rushing attack that accounted for 473 yards of offense in the game.

Bryson Johnson and Kolbi Stewart combined for 358 yards on the ground for the Hornets (4-3, 2-1 Region 5-1A), leading them to the win. Johnson scored twice and Stewart once in a 21-point second quarter that all but put the game out of reach for the Tigers (0-5, 0-3).

Huntland put together a methodical 13-play, 80-yard drive to start the game, converting three third downs on the drive before Micah Millraney capped it with an 8-yard run to give his team the lead.

A pair of big plays put Huntland in control in the second quarter. The Hornets had five plays of longer than 10 yards on their first drive of the second quarter, including a 13-yard scamper from Johnson. Stewart had a 55-yard run on first down on the Hornets’ next drive to set up his 9-yard touchdown run a play later, and Johnson capped the quarter with a 61-yard race to pay dirt.

The Tigers did put together a nice drive to open the second half, going 64 yards on 11 plays to cut the lead to 28-7, but the drive ate up a little more than half the third quarter.

Huntland answered with an 8-play, 80-yard drive of its own to stall any momentum Mt. Pleasant may have had.

Jackson Collier, the sophomore kicker at Mt. Pleasant nailed a 35-yard field goal in the fourth quarter and Davidson added a touchdown run in the fourth as well to cap the game’s scoring plays.

Mt. Pleasant is off next week, and will play host to Loretto on Oct. 16. Huntland travels to Moore County on the same date after enjoying an open date over fall break.
