Indy rolls to homecoming win over Dickson Co.

SM-Tn Sports

With a nearly perfect first half, Independence put points on the board both early and often in a 56-0 win over Dickson County on Friday.

Coming off a two-week shutdown due to COVID-19, the Eagles were eager to get on the field, and when they did there was no letting off the gas. Independence put up 49 points in the first half on Friday night, something coach Scott Blade was pleased to see after the long layoff.

“We had essentially three weeks off from playing,” Blade said. “We had some miscues early, so the preparation is extremely important.

“Our kids were excited. They were pumped up and ready to go, and it showed tonight.”

Indy scored on all five possessions, including two passing and another rushing score from Jaxson Campbell. He hit Tyler Kondra and Calvin Wilson for scores in the first half for the Eagles. Tre Hartwell scored twice in the half.

Giving his first team offense a chance to enjoy their homecoming night during the second half, Blade put the load on several young players, including Brice West, who found his way to the end zone in the game.

For the night, Campbell was nearly perfect throwing, finishing his night 7-of-9 for 110 yards and no turnovers. He also ran for 32 yards on just two carries.

Independence will make up its region game at Brentwood next week in a game with region championship implications.
