Glasner sidelined as Indy preps for season opener

As Independence prepares for its season opener Thursday night at home against Livingston Academy, the Lady Eagles will be without two of its most important pieces from last season.

Second-year coach Bryan Glasner will not be on the bench, and guard Jaylin Banks will not be on the floor.

Independence athletics director Mary Beth White is acting as head coach in Glasner’s absence. White returns to the Lady Eagles’ sideline after last serving as head coach in 2017.

“Bryan Glasner is still the head coach,” White said. “I am just filling in.”

Glasner was unsure of the timetable in which he would return.

“I’m dealing with some family stuff right now, so I’m not there,” he said.

Banks recently transferred to Middle Tennessee Christian after leading the Lady Eagles in scoring last season as a freshman.

Independence finished the 2019-20 campaign 16-10 overall, and 10-6 in 11-AAA — good enough for fourth place in the district — before losing a 53-50 overtime affair to Ravenwood in the tournament quarterfinals.
