Independence boys basketball coach steps down immediately

By Maurice Patton

Independence boys basketball coach Doug Keil resigned Thursday morning, effective immediately, according to Williamson County Schools athletics director Darren Joines.

Keil took over as the Eagles’ head coach prior to the 2018-19 season, after serving for one year as an assistant under Jarrett Jones. Over two-plus seasons, he compiled a 29-43 record, including an 8-9 (5-6 District 11-AAA) mark thus far this year.

Prior to his arrival at Independence, Keil — a Franklin High School graduate — had served as head coach at Warren County, Lebanon and Glencliff.

Assistant coach Jeff Parker will take over the program on an interim basis for the remainder of the season, according to Joines.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
