LAWRENCEBURG — Dominating the paint and the backboards with its size, Lawrence County rolled to a 67-22 win Friday night over Columbia Central in the District 8-AAA Tournament consolation game at the Ralph Benson Memorial Gym.

The Lady ‘Cats built a 10-point lead through the opening quarter, doubled that margin to 20 by halftime and led by 37 through three periods.

“I think anytime you can win going into a region game, that has to help with confidence,” Lawrence County coach Brian Porter said after the game. “We played good defensively and offensively. (I’m) very proud of how we executed. We had multiple players score the ball and played very unselfish basketball.”

That unselfishness dominated a 21-4 third quarter for the Lady Cats, part of an overall 39-9 run from the two-minute mark of the 2nd quarter to the final horn.

Lawrence County outrebounded Columbia 29-14 with a 21-10 edge on the defensive glass. The Lady ‘Cats shot 28 for 45 from the floor (5-8 3-pointers), while the Lady Lions only connected on nine field goals on 37 attempts.

Jacie Scott was the only player in double figures for either team with 13 points (5-6 FG).

Columbia Central continued to play without Janiyha Riley and Jalei O’Neal, both recovering from concussions.

Lawrence County will travel Monday to Oakland, which fell to Blackman in Friday’s District 7-AAA Tournament championship game. Columbia Central will play at Blackman. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. tipoffs.
