Lady Chargers split road pair at Dyersburg

Anisten Burleson drove in three, including two with a seventh inning bomb to lead Columbia State to a 4-1 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Dyersburg State on Wednesday.

The Lady Chargers got on the board in the top of the first when Delaney Porter led off the game with a single and moved to second on a Hannah Branam sac bunt. Porter scored on a two-out single from Alyssa Brown.

Dyersburg State tied the game in the fourth inning, but Burleson drove in her first run of the game with a single, scoring KK White, who reached base by taking a pitch to the body.

Columbia State’s Mycala Mitchell went the distance in the circle, giving up just one run on four hits and striking out six.

Dyersburg State 8, Columbia State 2: A seven-run sixth helped Dyersburg salvage a split at home on Wednesday against Columbia State. The Lady Eagles took advantage of four walks in the inning from Hannah Ray and another from Gracie Walker, who came on in relief in the inning, to put the game away.

The Lady Chargers took a 2-1 lead into the sixth behind a Hannah Branam double that scored Porter. Branam scored later in the inning on a single from Lulu Taylor.

Columbia State returns to action Saturday at Jackson State.
