Hot goalie leads way for Lions in ‘Meet In the Middle’ tourney

Dane Holley ran his season-opening shutout streak to three straight before allowing a goal in Columbia Central’s final game Saturday, as the Lions won the USL Championship of the Meet In the Middle Tournament at Murfreesboro’s Richard Siegel Soccer Complex.

The Lions got a first-half Brandon Carrascoza goal and an insurance goal from Kameron Smith with two minutes remaining to defeat Gallatin 2-0 in their Saturday opener. In the nightcap, Central rallied from an early deficit as Brewer Wall got the equalizer before halftime. Wall put his team ahead with three minutes to play, and Smith added a late goal for a 3-1 victory.

Central improved to 4-0 on the season, following Friday’s 3-0 tourney win over Murfreesboro Central and a 3-0 victory in the season opener Tuesday against Shelbyville. In four games the Lions have outscored opponents 11-1.

District 8-AAA play resumes Tuesday for Central as Franklin County visits at 7 p.m.
