Summertown 9, Union City 0: Grant Burleson struck out 10 in six innings and hit his eighth home run of the season as the Eagles (10-1) opened their weekend tournament with a win over their visiting foe from West Tennessee. Burleson held the Golden Tornadoes to two hits before Jake Smith came on for the final inning. At the plate, the Columbia State signee added a double and went 3-for-4 at the plate as did Skyler Trousdale. Drake Blackwood finished 4-for-4 with a triple and a two-bagger.

Lincoln Co. 10, Columbia Central 3: Three of the Falcons’ 11 hits went for home runs, and the host Lions committed four errors in the District 8-AAA matchup. Hudson Adams and Luke Uselton each had a pair of hits for Central (2-12, 1-7), but Lincoln County (6-4, 5-1) got to starter Koen Fagan for eight hits and eight runs (six earned) in four innings – breaking open the game with a four-run third to extend an early 2-1 lead. Uselton struck out four in three innings of relief.

Softball

Summit 10, Independence 0: North Alabama signee Elena Escobar allowed just five hits and struck out 10, but the Spartan offense didn’t secure the District 11-AAA victory until posting an eight-run seventh – sending 11 hitters to the plate and taking advantage of three errors by the hosts. Malia Scott, Ashlyn Easley, Dixie Corbin and Abby O’Reilly each had a pair of hits for Summit (5-3, 3-1). Morgan Brown had two of Independence’s five hits.
