BASEBALL

Columbia Acad. 24, Zion Chr. 0: Bryant Beranek was perfect on Monday night, going five innings and not allowing a single baserunner to Zion Christian. The Eagles committed six errors to aid the 15 hits from the Dawgs, and CA never looked back from an 11-0 lead after two. For the Bulldogs, Kavares Tears was 3-for-3, including his ninth homer of year year, and Beranek added three hits in four trips with five RBIs in the game.

Spring Hill 13, Franklin 3: Spring Hill used a couple of big innings to pull away early from Franklin in 11-AAA play. The Raiders plated four in the first and seven in the third before adding another pair in the seventh. The top part of the batting lineup, which has struggled for much of the year, put together a big night collecting nine hits among the first six hitters of the lineup. Brantly Whitwell, Dawson Hargrove, Quent Mizer and Chance Bland each tallied a pair of hits. Mizer and Bland drove in three runs each as well. Hargrove pitched a gem, going the distance and striking out 15 to get the win.

Summit 6, Lawrence County 2: Summit plated three runs in the second inning, two of which came on an Sam North double, and another pair in the third to pull away from Lawrence County. The Wildcats cut the lead to a run in the top of the third with a couple of bases loaded walks, but couldn’t get a timely hit. Summit pitcher Parker Dean was able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning without a run scoring. Tre Hunter added a pair of RBIs for the Spartans in the win.

Summertown 12, Mt. Pleasant 1: Drake Blackwood, have yourself a night. The senior catcher for Jason Burleson’s bunch had a homer and a double in a three-hit night that saw him drive in seven of the Eagles’ runs. Skylar Trousdale was awarded the win on the hill, going four innings and striking out six. Junior Ben Newland was 2-for-3 for the Tigers, and Codell Gilliam had the lone RBI on a single in the fourth.

SOFTBALL

Spring Hill 7, Ravenwood 0: Kat Carter struck out 21 in a two-hit shutout of Ravenwood, while walking only two hitters. Spring Hill jumped out to an early lead, scoring in each of the first four innings. The Lady Raiders took full advantage of their seven hit and two Ravenwood errors. Jeyce Brashears went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI in the game.

Cornersville 9, Culleoka 1: Culleoka scored seven runs in the fifth to put the game away for the Lady Bulldogs. Alex Skinner had a home run in the fourth to lead Culleoka at the dish, and also pitched three innings of relief, giving up two runs on four hits. Kylie Thomas took the loss in the circle for the Lady Warriors.

Columbia Acad. 2, Ardmore (Ala.) 0: The Lady Dawgs have a new home run queen after Myleah Hardy hit a solo shot in the fourth inning to surpass the previous season record of 16. Journey Mitchell struck out six and allowed just four hits in the complete game shut out.

SOCCER

Columbia Central 7, Lincoln Co. 2: The visiting Lions allowed their first goals in District 8-AAA competition, but were in control of the contest throughout. Gabino Sarabia led the offensive onslaught with a pair of goals, with Benton Wall, Brewer Wall, Victor Ramirez and Mason Hollandsworth each adding a scoring kick. Central improved to 12-1 (7-0) and wrapped up the league title with the win.

TENNIS

Columbia Acad. boys 4, Goodpasture 0: The Bulldogs opened Division II-A Middle Region tourney play with singles wins by Miles Nixon, Aaron Sullivan and Hayes Lewis along with a Nixon/Sullivan doubles victory.
