Jason Hoath was dismissed Monday as Columbia Central football coach after five seasons, according to Maury County Public Schools athletics director Chris Poynter.

John Moore has been tagged the interim coach by Columbia Central principal Kevin Eady, Poynter told SM-Tn Sports.

During Hoath’s tenure at Columbia Central, the Lions put together a 23-31 record, including a 7-22 region mark with a playoff win. Of the Lions’ 23 wins in that span, none were against Class 5A or higher teams with a winning record.

Last season, Hoath led the Lions to a 6-6 record with wins over Spring Hill, Dickson County, Overton, Lincoln County, Franklin County and Stratford in the regular season and ousted host Gallatin from the 5A state playoffs before losing to eventual state champion Summit.

Hoath’s career mark is 34-43 in eight seasons between Mt. Pleasant and Columbia Central.

Since the beginning of the 2020-21 school year, Central has now had changes atop the girls basketball, softball and football programs, in addition to administrative changes with principal, two assistant principal and co-athletic director positions.

This is a developing story. Visit SM-Tn Sports for more information as it becomes available.
