And then there was one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among area football teams, Summit is the only Associated Press Top 10 squad in this week\u2019s polls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Spartans were idle in Week 5, following a 27-20 loss at Class 6A Franklin, and remained the No. 5 team in a Class 5A listing that saw a bit of a shakeup with three ranked teams sustaining losses. Knoxville Central, the reigning state titlist, fell from first to fourth following its loss to Powell. Knoxville West, Powell and Beech \u2013 idle with COVID issues \u2013 are this week\u2019s top three teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summit (4-1, following a \u2018COVID\u2019 win over Overton) resumes play this week at Northwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summertown, which had been ranked ninth in Class 2A, dropped out of the Top 10 following its 42-21 loss to visiting Region 5-2A rival Lewis County. The unbeaten Panthers remain at No. 3, behind top-ranked Peabody and Meigs County.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Eagles continue league play Friday at county rival Loretto with the Pegasus Cup at stake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Region 4-4A members Tullahoma and Marshall County maintain their No. 3 and 5 positions, respectively \u2013 Tullahoma after scheduled games against both Spring Hill and Beech were canceled because of COVID, Marshall County after defeating Giles County 38-14 in the first of a rare home-and-home series this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tullahoma (5-0) travels Friday as Lincoln County\u2019s homecoming guest, while Marshall County is scheduled to face visiting Class 4A fourth-ranked Springfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trio of ranked Region 5-1A teams continues, as Fayetteville moved from sixth to fifth after defeating Moore County 28-22 while Cornersville slipped a spot to No. 9 in an open week. The Raiders, who went from fifth to seventh with the league loss, play Friday at Eagleville, with Fayetteville traveling to Richland for a region contest and Cornersville going to Middle Tennessee Christian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
