Roundup: Baseball, softball recaps

Baseball

Columbia Acad. 4, Lawrence Co. 1: Landon Prentice gave up a run in the first inning, but shut out the visiting Wildcats the rest of the way and the CA offense came through late. Kavares Tears hit his sixth home run of the season to tie the game in the fourth, and Grant Wooldridge drew a two-out bases-loaded walk to key a three-run sixth. Zackery Graves drove in Lawrence County’s lone run.

Middle Tenn. Chr. 12, Mt. Pleasant 3: The Tigers scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning, but couldn’t offset a pair of big innings from Middle Tennessee Christian, which plated six in the third and five in the fifth. Kevin Reed’s RBI base hit got Mt. Pleasant on the scoreboard, with Ryan Clark adding a sacrifice fly and Kobe Dowell driving in a run with his infield groundout. Reed, Hayden Holt and Codell Gilliam had the Tigers’ three hits.

Middle Tenn. Chr. 9, Summertown 4: The host Eagles led 2-0 early behind run-scoring singles from Drake Blackwood and Gavin Burleson in the opening inning, but managed little else. Cory Francis took the loss.
